I immediately contacted Juan Ortiz at Basses Electric-Acoustic after our conversation, and inquired about the three brands of cabs I was initially interested in. He said all three brands were great but the Bergs were in a league of their own tone-wise. Now that I’m playing through my new HT210/HT115 ‘Berg Stack’, I couldn’t agree more. I use a Read Custom Purity tube preamp and I’m powering my Berg Stack with a Crest CA-9 power amp. I won’t be gigging for a few more weeks, but I’m playing through my new setup here at home quite a bit. My old Ampeg BXT410HL cabs did a good job when I was only playing 4-strings, but when I started playing a Roscoe SKB3006 6-string, it was painfully obvious that my Ampeg cabs weren’t up to the task when it came to reproducing the sound of my Roscoe’s thick low end and massive-sounding B-string. Plus, my Roscoe was built to my specs to have a ‘horn-like’ tone. Keith Roscoe really hit a grand slam when he built my bass! It has the sound I’ve been dreaming about for about the last 20 years. I wanted speaker cabinets that would allow the great sound of my Roscoe bass to be heard without altering it’s tone in any way. My Berg Stack does this flawlessly. I’ve been complaining forever regarding all of these so-called ‘hi-fi’ bass cabs that I’ve owned and used prior to buying my Berg cabs. Too many times I wasn’t able to get enough midrange emphasis from the cabs to cut through. It was really hard to hear myself when the stage volume got really loud. I could hear all of the other instruments, but my bass was constantly buried. I’d always comment: “Why can’t someone make a cab with a flat audio response?” “I want to hear what my bass really sounds like, these cabs add too much of their character and tone to my sound!” My Bergantino cabs are the final components in my dream rig. I can’t believe how clean and articulate my stack sounds, yet is has plenty of warmth, and a very detailed, musical tone. My Bergs also project the sound of my bass better than any cab I’ve owned or tried. It’s almost scary. After doing some A/B comparisons with my Ampeg cabs and my Berg stack, I have no doubts that my Bergs will have more than enough volume for any of the gigs I play. Plus, the combined weight of my HT210/HT115 stack weighs less than one of my Ampeg BXT cabs! My back thanks you, and so do my ears! “I’ve had the HT/EX 112 duo for several months now and I really, really dig them. These cabs make me stop and savor life. I’m not thinking, “What else is out there and could there be something that sounds better than this”? I’ve been talking to a friend about selling him one of my basses and now that I’ve played it through the 12s I am having reservations! Rudy’s gave me a great deal on the two of them. The silver grille’s a real standout! I think apart from the size of the voice coils, the first thing I noticed was the grille and how well manufactured it is. The main amp I’ve been using with the cabs is a Clarus 1 Series II and it makes those 12s sing! I replaced my Whappo with these and I have no regrets. I would have liked to replace the Whappo with a 322 but for me persoanally, not having an automobile in NYC is an advantage. I highly recommend the ProCo Guardian FatMax 8-gauge speaker cable. I first found them at directproaudio.com but I’ve seen them at Sweetwater as well. As far as other amps, I’ve had stellar results with either a Demeter 201 or a Raven Labs MDB-1 into a Stewart 2.1. I find that the only tone tweaking I ever have to do is with the tweeter attenuator. These cabs are perfect for me because, being somewhat of a purist, I can get the most glorious sound by eliminating all unnecessary circuits, such as EQ! If it were up to me my bass would be much like AJs – one pickup and one balanced output. No volume knob, nothin’. “I was wondering if you would ever produce a two 12″ speaker cabinet with a tweeter or 6″ speaker, that can handle 800 watts rms or more and be able to go as low as 45Hz or lower? It would also be nice if the cabinet weight could be around 60lbs. I’m in the market for a new cabinet to purchase and this configuration is one that I would like buy. “I finally picked up your very limited ‘tolex Walter Woods’ 112 from Rock City Guitars in Somerville, MA. The red & black tolex looks so badass! Man, my Tyler/Roscoe basses sound so delicious. The horn can’t be beat. I’ve never been a big fan of them but now I might accually use one! I also heard your 210 a while back and am wondering if/when I can sell my Bag End 210. “It’s been well over a year now since I obtained my Begantino NV-215 bass cab. I’ve played my Hofner Vintage ’63 “Beatle” bass through it in a variety of settings and locations. Particularly I have played in on r & b southern-soul gospel concerts and recordings and it is beyond “warm” & “smoothe”. I run a hybrid “head” consisting of a Crest LT-1000 power amp coupled with an Avalon U-5 (like Paul’s) and it is the best tone I’ve ever heard. Plenty of power in the rig….never go past the 2nd notch (volume) on the U-5.
